608 Nov. 10, 2014- Finding out that the kids are taking odd jobs to help the family takes a toll on Richard’s confidence as a father.
Gap 1
– Ricky and Maya saw NicNik singing and Luke serving at the Circle Cafe. Talikod palabas si Ricky and crossed the street. Sunod si Maya. Huwag muna raw magalit sa mga bata. Let them explain. Ricky is having a hard time finding words. Hindi siya galit and alam niyang gusto lang nilang makatulong. He is angry and frustrated at the situation especially as their kids are affected. A reassuring hand on the shoulder is all Maya can offer.
-Napa-upo sa bangketa si Ricky na maiyak-iyak. He feels that he is a failure to his family. He feels helpless that he cannot even plan a decent celebration for his wife. Reassuring hug from Maya complete with back rub. Hindi ka failure, sweetheart. Hindi natin kailangan ang magarbong wedding anniversary celebration, isaw at balut ok na. Hindi ito ang magpapabagsak sa iyo. Gusto ni Maya na ito na ang huling beses na makikita si Ricky na ganyan.
– Maya reminded Ricky of his PAS speech about encountering hardship and even failure and as long as they work hand in hand, kapit-bisig, they can surpass and even go beyond them. Ang pamilya nila ay parang eroplano. Dumadaan sila sa low pressure area kaya may turbulence. Si Ricky ang piloto ng pamilya nila. Naniniwala at nagtitiwala si Maya na hindi pababayaan ni Ricky mag-crash and eroplano nila. Maya gave Ricky a kiss on the forehead. Nakalma na si Ricky at hinalikan ang kamay ng asawa. Pahid ng luha si Ricky at bumalik na sila sa cafe na nakahawak pa sa baywang si Ricky habang si Maya naman ay patuloy na hinahagod ang likod ni Ricky. Ang sweet nila.
Gap 2
– NicNik still singing. Ricky and Maya standing by the door of the cafe and watching. Nikki saw her parents and stopped singing. Si Nicolo na lang ang nagtuloy ng kanta. Nagka-eye contact si Nikki at Luke at nag-eye signals. Ayun nakita na ni Luke ang parents nila. Ricky beckoned Luke who started to apologized, but Ricky instead just asked to be seated. Maya saw and beckoned Joma. Uneasy si Joma. Sulat si Daddy, mukhang song request kay NicNik. Ipinaabot kay Luke. Iyon ang last song nila for the night. (Di ko alam ang title ng song, but words are very meaningful).
– Uwi na ang mga Lim at sinalubong sila ni Abby. Tahimik lang silang lahat.
– At the dining table (mukhang following day na ito), nag-sorry uli si Nikki. Nag-sorry din si Luke dahil idea daw niya ang lahat. Nikki and Luke started arguing on who started the whole part time work thing. Sabi ni Ricky, seeing them working made him worried and sad that they had to resort to that, but all those feelings are overshadowed by the fact that he is very proud of them. Luke reassured his parents that their studies will still take priority. Ricky gave his blessing that they can continue what they are doing, but once he sees that they are having a hard time or their grades are suffering, the deal is off. Mommy announced that after mass tomorrow, may pupuntahan sila. (Sa background, you can hear the twins. Tinatawag nila si Mommy. Wala silang paki)
Gap 3
– Last 15 days of love and happiness – Maya took a whiff of Ser Chief’s perfume. This is when they just moved to their 2nd house.
– Outing ang pamilya kasama si Doris, Sabel, and Joma. Paddle boating, biking, and flying a kite. Enjoy nakasakay ang kambal sa tricycle with Kuya as the drive. Si Sabel and Doris para silang coachmen, nakaalalay sa likod ng kambal.
– Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia trip si Ricky for talks with prospective LAI students. After what Maya said last night daw and seeing their kids trying hard to help, he is more motivated to try harder. Kailan ang balik mo? Next week. Hmmm? Gets ni Ricky agad kaya sabi niya babalik siya in time for their anniversary. Then, susunod niyang trip ay sa Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Ayan nag-aya ng kumain si Maya.
(I think the shooting location is at La Mesa Dam Eco Park, if I am not mistaken. I have not been there, but i seem to have seen this park featured in another TFC show. Sorry kung mali)
Gap 4
– Still at the park. Kuya trying out this bungee jumping/trampoline thing with whole family looking and cheering him on. Tapos fishing sila. Twice nakakawala ang huli ni Luke. May nahuli si Ricky, tilapia yata. Lahat sila all smiles and having a blast.
– Next morning, paalis na si Ricky for his trip. Good luck buhat sa buong pamilya na may kasama pang hatid sa kanya sa kotse.
TEASER
– Maya searching on the net for wedding anniversary idea. Ipinakita sa kambal kung okay. Okay daw sabi ng kambal.
– Luke informed mom about good comments posted on LAI FB page – Ricky in Kuala Lumpur and on the phone with Maya. Three people asked for application info. Happy naman si Ricky pero mas gusto niya Pinoy enrollees dahil LAI is primarily intended for Pinoys.
– Back from his trip, Ricky greeted by his family of the good news that LAI now has their first enrollee. (Sino kaya ito?)
– Maya asleep. Happy anniversary greeting ang alarm clock ni Maya from her kids and 3 red roses from Ricky (mukhang from the garden lang ang roses, tipid sila ngayon kasi).

Richard: Galit ako sa sitwasyon, and I’m so frustrated that the kids are affected. Una, nagkaproblema si Abby, then si Luke with Joni, and then this.
Maya: Sweetheart…
Richard: I’ve been trying to put on this strong façade, but the truth is I feel like I’m a failure. I failed you. I failed our children. I’m so helpless. I can’t even think of a decent celebration for my wife.

Just finished watching today’s episode, although the tears are really not clear (sorry, malabo ang mata ko) i am sure he really cried, suminghot sya eh, and nagpahid ng luha… with that scene hindi pwede dayain…
I love that sidewalk scene ng mag-sweetheart, Ricky just looking at his wife reassuring her trust on him and saying all those words… one of the best scenes for me…
Para talaga silang totoong family sa park their laughters are real, very obvious, no-acting acting at its best sarap lang ng pag-lean Mrs Lim?
Ang sarap ng feeling kapag ganun ang family mo; of course what they are showing is a bit ideal but what they are showing is very possible to happen in real life naman eh… why complicate life arguing and blaming each other, and pointing out each other’s weaknesses, di ba? kaya ang sarap panoorin ng BCWMH eh, good vibes and full of good values…

Three times nang “umiyak” si Ricky sa BCWMH (tama ba?), but in all I never noticed a tear roll down his cheeks. In two instances, it was sort of implied bec he wiped his eyes.
1.The night of Abby’s 7th b-day party at nagsalita na si Abby — noong si SC na lang ang nasa bedroom with Abby.
2. During the wedding — Even if I didn’t see a tear roll down his cheeks, i knew he cried as he had red eyes, nose, and ears. At saka singhot ng singhot.
3. Bangketa scene yesterday.
Kung sinabi ni RY noon na hindi sya pala iyak, then scenes needing him to cry is a challenge for him and he has portrayed them well.
Hanga ako sa mga actors/actress like Jodi na madaling umiyak. I remember seeing a blooper of the scene where SC was scolding Maya at the summit. Di ba ang iyak ni Maya doon? Sa blooper nahulog iyong painting sa tabi nila at bigla silang nagulat at nagtawanan. How can she turn on and off and on again an gripo ng mga mata nya? Ang galing.
Outing ang pamilya kasama si Doris, Sabel, and Joma.

After going back to the stage to sing a few more songs, Richard and Maya arrived. They were surprised to see Luke wearing an apron and serving the guests and seeing Nikki up there singing with Nicolo. Behind them is a big banner that indicates the guest entertainer for the night is NicNik. Obviously that is Nicolo and Nikki. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what is going on. Richard could see that both his children are working. He felt so bad that he walked away. Maya was still looking around when she noticed Richard left. She hurried up and followed him across the street.

Across the street, Richard couldn’t talk. He was very distraught. He placed his hands in his pocket. He kept his back turned on Maya and he remained quiet. Maya waited a while to say something. She assumes Richard is going into his tiger mode since he found out what the kids are doing. It is also obvious that the kids purposely hid the truth from them. “Sweetheart, please don’t be mad at the kids yet. Wait for them to give you an explanation.” Maya said in the hopes she gets to calm down her husband. Richard fought his emotions. He pursed his lips trying to find the right words to say. “Sweetheart…..” He wants to say something but he couldn’t because he feels so terribly bad inside. He shook his head, he shifted his stand. Maya patiently waited for her husband. “Sweetheart I am not mad at them. I know that they are just doing this to help. I am mad at the situation and I am so frustrated that the kids are affected.” Richard finally spoke. He let out a deep breath and then continued. “First it was Abby, then Luke with Joni and now this?” Richard said. Maya could feel the tension from his voice. She rubbed his shoulder to calm him down. “Sweetheart…” Maya said but she kept on rubbing his shoulder. She wants him to know she is there for him and that she ready to listen. Richard finally turned around to face Maya but he couldn’t look her in the eye.

Instead he sat down on the gutter with his hand on his forehead feeling broken; defeated. It took him a while to say anything. Maya stood in front of him. She waited until he was ready. “I have been trying to put up this strong facade but the truth is I feel like I’m a failure.” Richard Lim is at his lowest at this point. His voice cracked while he talked. “I failed you, I failed our children and I am so helpless. I can’t even plan a decent celebration for my wife.” Richard continued. His words pierced right through Maya’s heart. She placed her bag on the sidewalk next to Richard and then stooped down to embrace her husband. She held her tears. She isn’t going to show him any weakness for she vowed to remain his rock through this. She kept rubbing his back and tightly embracing him. Richard felt her. He took his arm to embrace her back.

Maya crouched in front of Richard so she could see his face. She placed her hand on his chin to raise it up. She wants him to listen carefully to what she has to say. “Sweetheart, you are not a failure and never were you ever a failure. We don’t need a big wedding anniversary celebration. Remember, innards and balut is enough.” Maya said. Richard nodded a little listening to his wife’s pep talk. “I understand how you feel. But are you giving up now?” Maya asked. Richard didn’t say a word. He just kept looking away trying to bear his thoughts and feelings. “This is not what is going to bring you down.” Maya said. And this is the last time I am going to see you looking like this. Ok?” Maya added. But Richard was still feeling down. Maya tried some more. “Sweetheart I am not used to seeing you like this.” She held him on his cheek. Richard finally mustered a half a smile. But he remained quiet. “Do you remember your speech when you became the president of PAS?” Maya asked him. Richard remembered.
“Hardships, obstacles and even failure may come our way but if we all worked together hand in hand; just like what my beautiful wife would always say, we can fly over and beyond the harshest storms that any aircraft can endure.”

“Didn’t you say that our family is like an airplane. Right now we are passing through a low pressure area that is why there is turbulence but you are our pilot and I strongly believe and trust that you are not going to allow our plane to crash.” Maya said. Richard took a deep breath. Maya leaned forward and gave him a kiss on the forehead then she placed both her hands on his face to make him look at her who is so proud and so in love with him. She is his number one cheerleader; his number one fan; his strength; his rock. He looked away. He felt Maya’s love and wants to return it but he doesn’t know what to say. He never felt so deflated. But here she is breathing him a new life, propping him back up and putting him back on the pilot seat. Still without a word he responds to Maya’s tenderness by taking her hand and kissing it. She held his and placed it against her warm cheek reciprocating his sweet gesture. “Let’s go back in?” Maya asked. Richard nodded ever so slightly. His face is a little brighter, a little more confident than before. Richard slowly stood up after Maya. He wiped his eyes clear of any sign of his emotions. She held him by the shoulder to walk across the street. He placed his hand on her waist. Their strides were in synch and their steps were together. These two connect in all levels….physically, mentally and emotionally. They take the same breath and walk the same path. Richard’s short moment of weakness is another test to her strength and his resolve. They are bound by their faith and love for one another.

Back at the cafe, Nicolo and Nikki were still performing and Luke continued to serve. Richard and Maya walked back in and stood by the door. At this time Nikki was taken back when she spotted her parents. In fact Nicolo saw them too just about the same time that Nikki saw them. He fumbled the guitar chords and Nikki stopped singing. Luke noticed it and looked back at Nikki. Their eyes spoke to each other. Luke picked up Nikki’s message and when he looked at the door, he saw his parents. Like Nikki, Luke became ghostly as he got nervous at the sight of his parents. But Richard signaled to call Luke. “Come here son.” Richard said. Luke obliged. “Dad/My…What are you two doing here…I mean…I’m sorry.” Luke was tongue tied and didn’t really know what to say. “Son, just find us a place to sit.” Richard said. Luke looked around but the place was packed so he told them to stand at a spot right by the door until a chair becomes vacant for them. Maya and Richard moved to the spot that Luke told them. When Maya was looking around, she saw Joma at the back standing against the wall just watching and waiting for Luke and Nikki. Maya called him to join her and Richard. Joma had no choice but to follow. He too was a little nervous that he’d get in trouble. But like Luke and Nikki, he was surprised that the Royals were not upset. Richard took Luke’s notepad. He scribbled something for Nikki and Nicolo. He gave it back to Luke and then asked. “Aren’t you going to give us a menu?” He said. Luke quickly fumbled around for a menu for Richard but not before he gave the note to Nikki. She looked at the note. While she didn’t know what to expect from the note, she was pleasantly surprised. After Nicolo finished the song they were singing he reintroduced themselves again and the last song of the night. Nikki showed Nicolo the note. He was happy to read that it was a song request from Richard. Nicolo began strumming the song that Richard requested. It is a song about hope, trust and faith by Eraserheads called With a Smile.

While Nicolo and Nikki sing the song, the scene showed Richard putting his arms around Luke and Maya and enjoying himself listening to Nikki and Nicolo’s performance. They also show the four go home from the Cafe that evening. Abby stayed up and waited for them. She came down the steps of the house to greet her parents and her siblings. It is almost a sure conclusion that Abby told Richard and Maya where Nikki and Luke were and that is the reason why she came, expecting to apologize to her older siblings. But because Luke and Nikki didn’t get in trouble, to Abby’s surprise they were not upset with her. It was a good evening after all.

The following morning at breakfast, Nikki apologized to Richard and Maya once more for not telling them that she had taken a part-time job. Luke said that it was his idea. “No Kuya it was our idea. You didn’t have to cover up for me.” Nikki said. “But you wouldn’t have thought about it if I didn’t tell you I planned to get a part-time job.” Luke argued. “No you are wrong Kuya because I have thought about it before you told me your plans.” Nikki argued back. “Nikki…Luke….” Maya called on both to stop the arguing. Luke apologized and so did Nikki. “You know what kids….Seeing you there working and even with Abby….I was worried. It made me sad that you had to resort to that. But you know what? Everything that I felt was overshadowed by the fact that I’m very proud of you.” Richard said. His father’s words warmed Nikki’s heart. “Dad….We are family. We want to help in our own little way.” Nikki said. “Nikki is right, Dad…Mommy. Besides we are able to manage our time and we are not forgetting our studies.” Luke promised. “Ok kids, we’ll let you do your thing but when it comes to a point that we could see that you are having a hard time or that your studies is getting affected, the deal is off.” Richard said. Both of Nikki and Luke agreed. “By the way, tomorrow after mass we have someplace to go.” Maya said. The kids got excited.

Finding out that the kids are taking odd jobs to help the family takes a toll on Richard’s (Richard Yap) confidence as a father.

The following day, after church, the entire Lim family with their hired help in tow went to a family park where they had a picnic under a Nipa hut. The family enjoyed their time together, playing and having fun. Maya and Richard took the time to interact with the twins and telling the older ones to take care of the younger ones as they all run and take off to play.

After snacks, Nikki, Luke, Abby and Richard got in paddle boats on the man made lagoon while the twins, Maya, Doris, Sabel and Joma watched them from the side carefully keeping the twins on a safe distance. They enjoyed watching Richard wave back at them.

Then they all get on their bikes and rode around the trails. Abby is still biking with training wheels and Nikki is showing great improvement but still easily scared when Abby gets all too close to her. Luke took the twins on the pedicab being followed on foot by Doris and Sabel making sure the twins do not fall. “Luke be careful. Please go slow to be sure that your siblings do not fall.” Maya tells Luke. “I know Mommy. I thinks the procession is faster than me at this time.” Luke teases his Mommy. At one point Luke tried to speed up just a little and Doris and Sabel scrambled to keep up asking him to please slow down. Then Joma plays with Doris and Sabel and pushes them on to keep up with the pedicab. They were hilarious. The twins were having such a grand time and so are Richard and Maya.
While Luke and Abby try to fly a kite, Richard and Maya stood by the railing of the steps just watching them. “Sweetheart, I will be flying to Malaysia tomorrow for the talks with prospective students and then I will be going straight to Thailand and Cambodia after that.” Richard told Maya. “After what you said last night and after seeing the kids try so hard to help, I am more motivated to work really hard.” He added. Maya held his hand wrapped around her shoulder just before she turned around to face Richard. “When are you coming home?” Maya asked. “Next week.” Richard replied. Maya was surprised. “Huh?” She asked. Richard chuckled. “I’m just kidding.” He said. “Of course I will be home in time for our anniversary.” He replied. “It’s ok Sweetheart. But don’t you have a talk in Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia?” Maya asked. “That is not scheduled until next week.” Richard answered. At this time, Maya looked at the time. She realized it is lunch. She calls everyone to lunch.

After lunch Luke treated everyone to Bungee jumping. He got tied up and ready to go while the rest are watching from behind the fence. Nikki caps on Luke telling him not to be scared. Luke responds that he can do it. After he started jumping to get some momentum, Richard yelled at him telling him to do it higher. Suddenly, he kicked off once really hard and did a back flip summersault. He was so excited and so were everyone. After that they were all laughing at the tricks that Luke was doing. He was flying and doing double summersaults at one time to the delight of everyone cheering him on. Richard and Maya couldn’t stop laughing. Whatever it is Luke is doing sent the two in stitches.
And their last activity at the family park was fishing. Richard had a pole and so did Luke. They seem to think that they are in competition to who catches a fish first. Nikki and Abby caps on Luke to hurry up. He is so tensed to beat his father that when a fish bit his bait he failed to snag it and it got away. On the other hand, Richard patiently waited and kept his line steady in the water until a nibble on his line. He immediately reeled the line and snagged an ugly black fish to the delight of thee twins and the rest.

The following morning, they all got up early to see their father off to his flight to Malaysia. “Bye Sweetheart.” Maya said. “Kiss the twins for me please.” Richard said. “Yes of course. Sweetheart, Good luck to you and lets call each other ok?” Maya said. “Dad I hope you are able to attract some foreign students even just two or three. That would already be a good start.” Luke said. “I hope so too.” Richard replied. “Let’s cross our fingers.” Nikki said. Then each of the kids kissed him goodbye starting from Abby. Maya gave him a hug. But while he told the family to go on and get ready for school, they want to walk him out to the car. This family is truly supportive of their father’s efforts and makes him feel that they are behind him. They walk him down the steps of the house.
