Richard closed his eyes.
Maria.
He remembered her now — a young woman he helped through a medical foundation program years ago. She was hardworking, determined, and grateful. But after the program ended, she disappeared from the hospital’s radar.

He never knew she had a child.
He never knew she kept his name all these years.

Bella watched him anxiously.
“Sir… I’m sorry if this is too much. I just… I didn’t know where else to go.”

Maya reached for her hand.
“Bella, sweetheart… you did the right thing.”

Richard nodded slowly.
“Your mother was a brave woman. And she trusted me. That means I will honor that trust.”

Bella’s eyes filled with tears — not of fear, but relief.

Maya wrapped an arm around her.
“You’re not alone anymore.”

Richard looked at the photograph again — him and Maria at a charity event, smiling.
A moment he barely remembered…
