Kinabukasan, Richard sat with Bella at the dining table.
“Bella… can you tell us about your mom?”

Bella nodded slowly.
“She always said you were the kindest doctor she ever met. She said… you saved her life.”

Richard froze.

And then Bella placed something on the table —
a small, worn ID from a foundation program he once led.

“Sir… this is where you met her.”

Everything suddenly made sense.

Morning sunlight streamed into the dining room as Bella sat quietly, hands wrapped around a warm mug of chocolate Maya prepared for her.

Richard took the seat across from her.
“Bella… only if you’re ready, can you tell us about your mother?”

Bella nodded, eyes distant.

“My mom… she was strong. She worked hard. She never complained. But she always told me one thing — that there was a doctor who helped her when she needed it most.”

Richard’s breath caught.

“She said you were the kindest doctor she ever met,” Bella continued. “She said you saved her life.”

Maya looked at Richard, surprised.

Bella reached into her backpack and pulled out a small, worn ID card.
The edges were frayed, the photo faded — but the logo was unmistakable.

The Lim Foundation Medical Assistance Program.

Richard’s eyes widened.

“This… this was from a charity program I ran years ago,” he whispered. “We helped patients who couldn’t afford treatment.”

Bella nodded.
“My mom was one of them. She always said she wouldn’t have survived without you.”

Richard felt a lump in his throat.

Bella continued, voice trembling.
“She wanted to thank you again. But life got hard. She got sick again. And before she…”
Her voice broke.
“…she told me to find you. Because she trusted you.”

Maya reached for Bella’s hand, squeezing it gently.

“Your mother was brave,” Maya said softly. “And she loved you so much.”

Bella wiped her tears.
“She did. And she said… if I ever needed help… you would be there.”

Richard inhaled deeply, emotion tightening his chest.

“Bella,” he said, voice steady but soft, “your mother was right. I will honor her trust. Whatever you need… we’re here.”

Bella looked at him — really looked — and for the first time since she arrived, her eyes held something new.
