Sorry, boys. Kapamilya star Janella Salvador’s mom, former “Miss Saigon” actress Jenine Desiderio (she played Kim in the original production) is not letting her daughter entertain suitors.
“She’s too young. She’s only 16. I’m quite old school with my values. With the world that we live in right now, I believe that’s the only way I can protect her,” the hands-on single mom tells Yahoo Philippines.
But Jenine lets her guard down a bit when it comes to the Yahoo Philippines 2014 Emerging Female Star nominee’s friends.
“I allow her though to hang out with friends and cultivate friendships (with both genders).”
One condition
Jenine has one condition: Janella must be properly chaperoned.
The teen artist is not complaining. She is, after all, a loving daughter even when she was a little girl.
Jenine can’t forget the then four-year-old Janella’s surprise on her birthday.
“I received so much flowers from so many friends that they kept on coming almost every hour. I was still asleep. When I woke up, I opened my bedroom door to find on the doorstep a bunch of santan flowers from our backyard with a handwritten birthday greeting! Ayaw patalo! Lol!” Jenine recalls.
Love language
This started a ‘love language’ only mother and daughter understand.
For sure, Janella also speaks this love language to her younger brother, Russell.
“She’s also a very good “ate” to her little brother,” Jenine shares.
The good Ate works seven days a week these days. She plays Ser Chief’s middle child Nikki Lim in the long-running ABS-CBN teleserye “Be Careful with My Heart” and sings and dances in the Sunday variety show “ASAP.”
New show and a movie
This early, she is slated to do anther show after “Be Careful” wraps up, plus a movie – her first ever.
Jenine is mum about the details of the movie. But she said it will be under Regal Entertainment.
The movie is expected to boost Janella’s popularity, even as fans rally behind the singer-actress who loves inspiring other young people.
“My advice to young people is to be confident of themselves,” says Janelle.
This way, many good things will happen to them, the way it did for the Kapamilya artist, who never expected she will land a role in “Be Careful” after the auditions.
Dreams of having an album
Where singing is concerned, Janella didn’t have to be taught on how to go about it. After all, her father is singer-composer Juan Miguel Salvador, whose band still performs in music venues.
Jenine says her daughter was singing the high part of “Loving You” (the whistle) in tune at six months old. Janella started with Playshop kids at five years old and got bookings for product launches and trade fairs soon after. At 10, Janella was one of Maestro Ryan Cayabyab’s scholars.
No wonder Janella dreams of having a pop-R&B album someday. That will make her even busier than ever.
Janella doesn’t mind. She is living her dream while pleasing her mom and growing number of fans. And that’s enough for her.

Still sa abangan…persistent Nikki to join TPUS. Next week na siguro makikita kung sino si Michael na president ng TPUS.

Si Sky naman na kunwari tulog pero nung tumalikod si Mommy gumalaw at nilaro yong stuff toy…hihi!!
Ayun oh! Sa wakas nakakita na ako ng pic na nakapink polo si SC to go with the July 12 Flashback. Yan yong time after the prom kiss na lalong naging aligaga si Maya at pati na rin si SC sa kahihintay kay Maya at nagmamadaling umuwi after the meeting pero di niya naabutan si Maya na nagmamadaling umuwi kahit mag back ride sa tricycle.
Oh di ba sa kanya nagmana si Sky kung makalick ng lips!!!!

Business Unit Head Ginny Ocampo considers “Be Careful With My Heart” a legacy
Be Careful With My Heart is celebrating its second year anniversary this month. In an interview with abs-cbn.com, Business Unit Head Ginny Ocampo remarked that achieving such a feat has been very humbling for the entire cast and crew of the show.
“Very grateful kami kasi hindi naman namin yun ini-expect at all. The whole experience is very humbling, she said. She underscored that the journey had not been easy initially. Ano kasi para siyang may isang sariling buhay, so may ups and downs siya. Nong nag-start kami ng hindi namin ini-expect na magiging successful, lagi kaming nangangapa lang, and noong nakuha na namin yung tamang timpla and all, naging very comfortable for us to do the show.”
She stated that she can consider the soap as her legacy in her 20 years of service because the show has touched millions of Filipinos all over the world. Nakita ko siya in a different light noong nag-world tour kami, nakita ko yung role namin, ang role namin sa mga Filipino abroad na we’re there to inspire them, to be with them every single day and yun mag-remind sa kanila ng Filipino values. Sabi ko nga, magiging legacy ko na to sa buong career ko. After 20 years, ito yung naiisip kong magiging legacy ko,” she stated.
According to her, one of her biggest lessons from the show is that a character-driven soap has all the potential to be a hit among the viewers. “As a producer yung malaking bagay kapag yung character-driven ang materyal mo kasi pag character-driven mas mahaba ang pwedeng itakbo ng show. [Pero] hindi lang basta character-driven kundi parang totoong tao, meaning very real, relatable, authentic, yung character ang hugot parang sa toong buhay, very Filipino kasi pag ganoon madaling kumapit ang audience at mas madaling mahalin ang characters.”
She also attributed the success of the show to its cast whom she said is perfect for the show. “Swerte lang kami kasi parang perfect yung cast,yun providential din, marami kaming cast na nagkataon na sila talaga, right timing so yung kabuoan ng lahat, not just Richard (Yap) and Jodi (Sta. Maria) yung mga support cast parang perfect sila for the role.”
She extended her gratitude to those who supported Be Careful With My Heart since the very beginning.”Maraming, maraming salamat. I cannot thank you enough. Hindi ko nga alam kung may karapatan akong magpasalamat kasi to me yung audience na ang nagcre-create ng show, sila na yung nagpapatuloy ng kwento, kami lang yung nabigyan ng task na gawin yun for them. Pero yung pagmamahal nila sa show at sa characters at pag-appreciate sa ginagagawa namin, yung nagbibigay ng kumbaga sa anhalaman nagwa-water para tuloy-tuloy ang pag-grow.”
On what’s next for the show as it embarks on its second year, she relayed, “Wala akong malinaw na long term plan kasi everything is dependent on the management’s decision hanggang kailan to kasi ang dilemma namin is how to end it without making the audience sad kasi meron silang attachment sa show and the characters,yon yung iniisip namin kung papano namin gagawin.”
